The Meridian Trust Partnership

Meridian Trust began with a simple yet powerful goal: to provide high-quality, dynamic education for everyone in the heart of our community. What started as a vision has since grown into the thriving Meridian Trust we know today. Formed in 2011, Meridian Trust was built on this clear mission: to deliver outstanding education for all at the heart of our communities. But how did we transform this vision into reality?

The journey began with the creation of Cambridge Meridian Education Trust (CMET) in March 2009. This organisation was established to participate in the competition to promote new schools in Northstowe, a new town proposed between Swavesey and Cambridge. CMET was founded by passionate advocates for education in the region: the governors and trustees of Swavesey Village College, a highly successful school, and part of Meridian Trust.

In March 2011, CMET evolved into Cambridge Meridian Academies Trust (CMAT), becoming a multi-academy trust. This transition allowed Swavesey Village College to convert to academy status, sponsor other academies, and share best practices across schools. In May 2022, following a merger with Cambridge Primary Education Trust (CPET), the Trust adopted its current name – Meridian Trust.

At Meridian Trust, we place the success of every child at the heart of our mission and prioritise the sharing of excellent educational practices. We are dedicated to improving the quality of education and life across Cambridgeshire and its surrounding areas. With hubs in Cambridge and Peterborough, our staff, pupils, and families come from a diverse range of settings—from rural villages to inner-city estates.

As a Trust we truly value the success of every child and we place the sharing of excellent education practice at the core of this value. We are committed to improving the quality of education and life in the county of Cambridgeshire, and its immediate surroundings. With this aim, the Trust operates from hubs in Cambridge and Peterborough and its staff, pupils and families are spread across the entire area from rural village to inner city estate.

Throughout our journey, Meridian Trust remains committed to its core principles, working with schools where we believe we can make a meaningful impact and where they, in turn, enrich the Meridian Trust family.

Each of Meridian Trust’s academies shares common values and operational systems, which are tailored to meet the needs of their individual contexts. This approach ensures that each academy retains its own local governing body, identity, and individuality. As a result, the young adults who leave our care are well-prepared, confident, and ready to take the next steps in their lives.
