Siblings
Having a brother or sister with special educational needs or a disability can be a very positive experience. However, it can also be challenging at times and you may need to support your family. You might have to do extra jobs around the home, such as cooking, cleaning or giving a lot of physical help. Along with doing things to help your brother or sister, you may be giving them and your parents emotional support, too.
We have identified a range of charities and support services, where you can access additional advice and guidance available to you as a young carer.
- For brothers and sisters of disabled children and adults
https://www.youngsibs.org.uk/ - Offer free and confidential support on anything young people would like some help with, including their mental health, caring responsibilities, housing, sexual health and more.
https://centre33.org.uk/ - Provides information on Cambridgeshire’s ‘All age carers strategy’ and advice of where to access support.
https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/children-and-families/parenting-and-family-support/supporting-young-carers - Gives advice on your right’s as a young carer.
