Larry Amure
Academy Council Member
I joined Meridian Trust as an Academy Council Member in January 2020 on the recommendation of a friend who had been a member.
I obtained a B.Sc. (Bristol), and a PhD (Cambridge) before graduating as a doctor from Cambridge.
I spent over thirty years as a hospital doctor including qualifying as an Ophthalmologist, which allowed me to open my own optician’s business. I was a local GP in Over for just over 20 years where we covered 80 square miles. General Practice is run as a business in the UK and so I have experience of managing budgets and dealing with staff. My medical career has allowed me to look after the health of the very young right up to those who were post retirement.
I taught Cambridge University undergraduates in Natural Sciences and medicine for over thirty years as well as examining final year medical students. I am an associate of the Higher Education Academy, which latterly became a requirement in order to be able to continue to teach undergraduates.
I am now retired from Medicine.
